Bacterial Pneumonia

Pneumonia refers to lung inflammation. There are 50 such lung inflammatory ailments. During such situations, the lungs inevitably experience build up of fluids. Several micro-organisms cause pneumonia. Pneumonic inflammation of the lungs occurs due to collection of cellular wastes and blood cells within the air sacs within the lungs. Such pneumonic inflammation creates breathing problems.

Signs and symptoms that led to the diagnosis of pneumonia in children are fever, cyanosis (bluish, especially on the lips), and more from one of the symptoms of respiratory distress, they are: rapid breathing (tachypnea), cough, nose flaring, and retracted chest wall . Moreover, there is an additional voice in breathing. If the child is able to communicate/talk, he/she will complain of shortness of breath.

Another common sign of typical Pneumonia is that their chest pains start to happen to the point that even little touch can start to pain. The other very clear sign of this can be the yellow sputum while you cough. The most common sign can however be the shortness of breath. This can easily be seen as that associated with emphysema or even asthma. This however can not be distinguished from other diseases quite easily as there are so many other reasons that can start this quite easily.

Another form of chemical pneumonia is aspiration pneumonia. Aspiration pneumonia refers to the problem of mouth contents entering the airways instead of going into the stomach. This can lead to an infection of the lungs, fever and breathing problems, even a bacterial pneumonia. Generally, a person who has a malfunctioning swallowing mechanism, who does not posses a good cough reflex, could develop aspiration pneumonia. You can also get pneumonia if you breathe in when vomiting.

Aspiration pneumonia is caused by the inhalation of foreign materials: liquids, dust particles, chemical fumes and other irritants. This type of pneumonia mostly common affects small children, but adults are not immune to it, because they have inhaled either vomit or food. The symptoms of Aspiration pneumonia are not always intense and may disappear within a few days, but in rare cases the aspiration of either food or vomit can result in respiratory arrest and death.

Due to the fact that eosinophilic pneumonia generates a wide range of physical manifestations and due to the variety of its presumptive underlying causes, the disease is also referred to as a syndrome. The unknown etiology of eosinophilic pneumonia and the scarce amount of data regarding the occurence and the progression of the disease render medical scientists unable to timely diagnose this syndrome. There is also no effective, specific cure for eosinophilic pneumonia in present.

Clinical features: The onset is with mild symptoms, but soon the condition worsens to produce grave toxemia, purulent and blood stained sputum and cyanosis. The lesions are generally multiple, giving rise to thin-walled abscesses. It may frequently spread to the pleura to produce emphysema or pyo-pneumothorax. Signs of lobar consolidation may not be evident. Diagnosis should be suspected from the clinical setting and the presence of toxemia fat out of proportion to the pulmonary signs. Gram-staining of sputum and culture reveal the organisms. Mortality varies from 20-25%.
